“Over the years, the College of Education of the University of the Philippines has produced the rare breed of teachers who – with their lives, careers, and achievements- have inspired generations of students to learn, to explore, to challenge and go beyond their limits, and to live the lessons they have learned from these great educators. It was with intent to honor and give recognition to these rare gems among the UP Education Alumni that this coffee table book, GURU: Distinguished Educators, was conceived of by the officers and members of UP Education Alumni Association (UPEAA) Board of Directors. This coffee table book was initiated as one of the UPEAA’s contributions to the centennial celebration of the University of the Philippines in 2008. It features the College alumni who, through the years, have achieved prominence in their profession and recognition in teaching, educational research, school administration, community and professorial leadership, both in the national and international arenas. The alumni chosen for inclusion in the coffee table book underwent a long and rigorous selection process. Consultations were conducted with UP College of Education alumni, retired and current faculty and graduate students. Members of the editorial staff gathered additional information from various sources, including alumni yearbooks, old issues of popular newspapers and magazines, websites and internet resources. Personal information about the featured alumni were also painstakingly collected from their families and nearest of kin. The production of GURU: Distinguished Educators is a celebration of the achievements of the College of Education alumni to nation building and formation of a global community.”
