Since 2005, the Social Action Student Staff (SASS) has been conducting the Teach to Reach program whereby volunteers give English and Math tutorial sessions to children of Tuberias, San Juan -- ICA’s partner community. SASS members invite second year students to participate in this weekly activity. This school year, the SASS and the Young Christian Life Community (YCLC) have teamed up to improve the Teach to Reach program by including a once-a-month catechism for the children of Tuberias.

Last September 11, the Teach to Reach program had its first session of Catechism for the Children of Tuberias (CCT). The kids took a break from their usual English and Math lessons to learn more about the value of honesty.  The day started with an action prayer song and some games and then they proceeded with the day’s lesson. Through some situational skits, the YCLC members were able to teach the children how they can live out honesty in their daily lives.

The SASS initiated the CCT because it believes that building character is just as important as gaining knowledge. Through this program, it is hoped that the children of Tuberias will be imbued with Gospel values and grow up to live Christ-centered lives.
