Medical Mission with Parent's Auxiliary

Last November 20, 2010, the ICA Parent Auxiliary through the parents of Grade 3 and Grade 7 students spearheaded a medical mission dubbed as “Operation Tulong, Linis Sugat, Tanggal Pigsa”, which was held in the covered court of Barangay Batis, San Juan City. Simultaneous with the medical mission was the First Aid Seminar and Sagip Buhay Tips, which impart necessary information and skills that are helpful especially during the times of emergency. Aside from the medical mission, free service on bone density testing, nebulization, and blood sugar test were provided. This undertaking was the Parent Auxiliary’s expression of their commitment to community service for people who are in need of medical assistance.

 

Thanks are extended to the Red Cross volunteers from Pasig who held the Seminar on First Aid and Sagip Buhay Tips, to the Red Cross volunteers of Mandaluyong who manned the Linis Sugat and the blood sugar test, to the the doctors from the University of Sto. Tomas (UST), to the Unilab’s Biofemme for conducting free bone density testing, and to UST’s Thomasian Alumni Leaders Association for free nebulization service. The Barangay Officials of Barangay Batis and the Barangay Health Workers were commended for their active participation as well.

The Red Cross volunteers from Pasig discussed the nature, causes, signs and symptoms, and first aid management on illnesses such as heart attack, stroke, choking, epileptic attack, diabetic emergency, convulsions, drowning and other asphyxia cases, nose bleeding, diarrhea, and emergency childbirth. Causes and techniques of rescue breathing and a demonstration of it for adult, child and infant was done with the medical mission recipients looking at the demonstration it and even participated. For this mission, 100 slots were provided for the senior citizens from the two barangays. A total of 482 patients of various ages from the community of Tuberias and residents of Barangays San Perfecto and Batis were served in the mission.
